History

Hoke County was formed in 1911, in the early 20th century — making it one of the youngest counties in North Carolina. The state's 100-county configuration was finalized in 1911 with the creation of Avery and Hoke counties. No additional counties have been created in North Carolina since 1911, and none have been dissolved or merged.
